Job Description:

Position Title: Director of Student Ministries

Location: Southside Methodist Church, Jacksonville, FL

Employment Type: Full-time, Exempt

 

Position Summary: Southside Methodist Church is seeking a dedicated and dynamic individual to serve as the Director of Student Ministries. This role is pivotal in leading, mentoring, and managing all youth programs aimed at fostering spiritual growth among our student members in grades 6 through 12.

 

Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree required; seminary or religious emphasis preferred • Demonstrated commitment to Christian values and character • Previous experience in Christian leadership, with a focus on youth ministry • Active involvement in personal Bible study and spiritual growth

 

Duties and Responsibilities: The Director of Student Ministries will oversee various aspects of youth programming and spiritual development, including but not limited to:

  • Leading Sunday night programs, youth choir, and youth praise band to encourage praise and worship (PRAISE)
  • Engaging in community outreach activities such as weekly tutoring, missions, and evangelism (OUTREACH)
  • Facilitating small group sessions to involve students with believers (INVOLVE)
  • Guiding students to recognize the need for Christ through Sunday School and personal faith development (NEED)
  • Empowering youth through leadership development and youth-led ministries (TRIUMPH)

 

Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Coordination of confirmation classes, retreats, and special events like fundraisers and summer activities
  • Regular communication with staff, district meetings, and helping maintain social media presence
  • Assisting with church-wide events as assigned by the Senior Pastor

 

Staff Development: 

  • Building and empowering a team of student leaders
  • Cultivating relationships with volunteers, parents, and community organizations
  • Goals for the Next 12 Months: 
  • Develop and empower a team of student leaders
  • Recruit and train college/young adult leaders for ministry
  • Provide support and encouragement to small group leaders
  • Foster community building with local churches and ministries
  • Ensure a welcoming and engaging environment for students throughout the summer

 

Resources Needed: 

  • Recruitment of volunteers to support in youth ministry
  • Hiring a Summer Intern to engage youth during the summer months
  • Allocation of funds to provide nominal stipends for youth leaders
